Congratulations!
My guess is if you are reading this the big question has been popped. This is an exciting time in your life with so many new thoughts, emotions and oh, the questions!
You may be asking ‘where do I start?’ or you may have your Pinterest board maxed out with wonderful ideas or find yourself somewhere in between. Today we will try to cover many of the options that we have available now.
Today many couples have a difficult time trying to keep true to themselves as well as keeping peace with the expectations of family, friends and traditions. Obviously, we need to be cognizant of our closest family and there should be some consideration given to those whom you may be receiving financial assistance, but try to remember that this is YOUR day, you and your partner and at the end of the day the most important thing that matters is that you are married.
You will need to do the research within your state, county, township and city, what the requirements are in your area as well as the area you are looking at to get married in. If you are here in Michigan please see the attached application form for your reference. These may vary from county to county so be sure to use this as a reference and not the final say.
For those of you who reside or are planning on getting married in Delta County MI, see the attached 2 pages of information download, print and complete the attached Delta County Marriage License application before going into the County Clerk’s Office. When filling out the application, at least one signature must be notarized or signed in the County Clerk's office. For those who aren't in Delta County this will be a good resource so you know the questions they will be asking on the form in your area.
So, without further ado lets dive in, starting with the least amount of fuss.
-Quick civil service at the Courthouse. This involves the 2 of you and 2 witnesses a trip to the courthouse within the allotted time from when you applied for the marriage license. Generally, does not have many in attendance. This is a great option if you are under a time crunch due to things like military deployment.
-Elopement. This is like what is listed above however you have a few more options to personalize it. You can host close to home or anywhere around the world if you research the local laws where you are planning to get hitched. Generally, this option doesn't have many in attendance either.
-Pop UP wedding. This is similar in size to the first two however this offers many options to personalize. This type of ceremony may take place almost anywhere. We have seen them take place in restaurants, on a yacht, beach, local county fair etc. it can be anyplace that is significant to the couple.
-Pop UP Chapel. This option is unique in the fact that you are able to share the cost of a particular venue with other couples, on the same day, with a neutral colored decor, with a photographer but have a specific time set aside to host your ceremony and mini reception. Most have 40 or less guests attending.
-Church Ceremony. This option is a great tradition for those who would like the option to have their ceremony in the church. Most will need to be affiliated with the church in order to host their ceremony.
-Officiant wedding. Backyard, beach, park or at the venue. Great option for those who would like to host
Don't forget the food! There are many options for couples now, you can have a small dinner reception of 20-40 guests at a local restaurant or your backyard BBQ to 300+/- guest reception and at a venue.
